About Alumni Capital

Alumni Capital Management is a Miami-based alternative investment fund launched in 2021 that deploys opportunistic, event-driven strategies in global small-cap equities. Sector-agnostic yet concentrated in healthcare, technology and consumer names, the firm combines public-market trading with bespoke ELOC and PIPE financings, providing flexible growth capital to issuers alongside a focused, value-oriented portfolio.

  • Founded In: 2021

  • Fund Size: £XXXm

  • Headquarters: Miami, United States

Challenge

Winning in small-caps means spotting catalysts early - earnings surprises, regulatory rulings, activist filings, insider buys - then acting before price gaps close. With a lean team covering hundreds of issuers across time-zones, Alumni were already stretched thin.

MiFID II's research-payment unbundling, introduced across Europe, had slashed broker coverage of sub-$500m issuers globally, leaving the small-cap space increasingly data-poor even as opportunity continued to rise. Alumni found manual processes led to valuable hours passing before catalysts were recognised and spreads had closed.

To stay nimble, the fund needed an end-to-end pipeline that could monitor hundreds of names, filter noise, and deliver personalised insights for each team member.

Solution

Alpha generation in small-caps requires processing vast amounts of data to identify the 1% of events that actually move markets. By automating this discovery process while maintaining personalised analytical rigor, funds can expand their opportunity set without proportional increases in research headcount.

Previously, achieving this level of personalised coverage would require hiring teams of specialised analysts to monitor filings, news feeds, and earnings calls across hundreds of names, then format and deliver insights according to each portfolio manager's preferences. From an economics perspective, this eliminates the return advantages that make small-cap strategies attractive.

To transform their intelligence capabilities, Alumni partnered with Zeed:

Multi-Source Data Ingestion

Zeed monitors regulatory filings across multiple jurisdictions, earnings transcripts, insider transactions, and specialised small-cap news sources worldwide.

Personalised Event Classification Engine

Zeed's agentic layer processes data streams in real-time, learning each team member's investment style and focus areas. The platform personalises catalyst detection based on individual preferences - whether focusing on biotech regulatory events, consumer earnings surprises, or tech insider activity.

Tailored Intelligence Delivery

Insights flow directly into personalised investment workflows with automated alerts customised to each team member's preferences. The platform learns from interactions, refining what constitutes "actionable" for each investor and delivers research in formats that match individual decision-making processes.

Result

Zeed transformed Alumni's investment operations, allowing the team to scale their analysis capacity 10x while maintaining their fund-specific approach. With 24/7 global market surveillance eliminating geographical blind spots, no significant developments were missed across their international portfolio.

The personalised intelligence delivery allowed Alumni to scale coverage and maintain their opportunistic edge without diluting analytical rigour or expanding headcount.

Instead of gathering data, we now focus entirely on analysis. Zeed handles the heavy lifting while we generate returns.
